UKRAINE IS MOVING CONFIDENTLY TOWARDS RATIFICATION OF THE ILO CONVENTION ON WORK IN MARITIME SHIPPING (MLC, 2006)

In October, a National roundtable was held in Kyiv, which was an important step towards Ukraine's ratification of the ILO Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006) – a key international standard protecting the rights and welfare of seafarers.

The event was attended by representatives of the government, international organizations, state institutions, the maritime community, insurance companies, and social partners. During the discussion, the parties outlined further steps to bring Ukrainian legislation closer to international standards and strengthen social protection guarantees for Ukrainian seafarers.

The event was organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in cooperation with the Office for Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and the Trade Union Marine Transport Workers’ (MTWTU) of Ukraine
